Since the beginning of the pandemic, almost everything has become virtual - school, work, extracurriculars, and much more. As favourable as this is, it has also been extremely easy to get distracted, especially for students. With just a simple click, we can open Netflix on a new tab or Tik Tok on our phone when we are supposed to be focused in class or doing homework. Procrastination seems okay to do at the moment, but later on, it causes frustration. Now, what if we used our devices to be more productive? There are so many apps that are out there, meant to help students with time management, organization and scheduling. Keep reading to find out some of the best productivity apps for students!
Flora
Flora is an effective way to stay off your phone. You can add to-do lists and habits to the app, and whenever you want to start to reach a goal, you can plant a seed. As you spend more time achieving those goals or studying, the seed will grow into a tree, and eventually, you’ll have your own garden! Flora blocks apps that can be distracting and uses the Pomodoro technique (focus for 25 minutes, break for 5 minutes) to keep you on track. You can also encourage your friends to download this app to help each other focus and study together! With around 2 million users worldwide, Flora is a friendly productivity app you should definitely try!
2. Be Focused: Pomodoro Timer
Be Focused is an app with a built-in Pomodoro timer, which can help you study while also ensuring that you’re taking breaks to rest your brain in between study sessions. You can use this app to create a daily to-do list, track how long you’ve studied for, and set study goals for yourself. Furthermore, you can customize your own intervals on Be Focused depending on whatever works best, so you do not have to stick to the regular 25 minutes work and 5 minutes break time. You can download Be Focused on the Chrome Web store, be sure to check it out!
3. Trello
Do you need to work on a collaborative group project? Trello is the app for you! This app allows you to collaborate with teammates and share information with each other. More specifically, Trello allows you to organize projects with a user-friendly layout. Smaller tasks can be grouped, and those tasks can then be assigned to different groups or team members. You can also add due dates so everyone knows what to do and exactly when to do it. This app is great for group projects or extracurriculars where everyone should be on the same page.
4. Toggl Track: Hours & Time Log
Essentially, Toggl is an app that keeps track of your time. It helps you understand how much time you’re putting in on different tasks. The idea is that when you are aware of how you spend your time, you can understand how to make the best use of it and plan your daily, weekly and monthly agenda according to that. Toggl also provides extensive statistics reporting and easy scheduling to help you get the most out of your time.
5. TimeTree: Shared Calendar
TimeTree is basically a shared calendar with a weekly and list view. You can add your tasks as well as tasks for other members of your team/group, and everyone can see what they have to do. This is a great app to remind your group members and yourself of what needs to get done and when. TimeTree is excellent in any collaborative work or personal spaces.
All in all, it can be very beneficial for students to use productivity apps like the ones above to stay on task and be more aware of how they’re spending their time everyday. We’ve provided a variety of different applications, so feel free to try them out and stick with the ones that you think work best for your study methods! It can be hard to stay focused in class, especially in online classes, but we can take advantage of the technology around us to make sure we get everything on our to-do list done! Remember, work hard but don’t forget to take breaks once in a while, and you will be sure to achieve all your goals.
